These visual equations are all examples of how we can read and write the meanings in an object. For instance, the first equation shows how the electric guitar design might have been influenced by mixing the idea of a stringed instrument such as a violin with the electric shape and form of a lightning bolt.
The second equation tells us how the first pair of Air Jordan basketball trainers were created in a way that represents the style of streetwear during the 80s, influenced by many famous hip-hop artists and role models to urban culture and society, whilst designing them to enhance performance in the game of basketball.
Lastly, the third equation suggests that the design of the PS4 controller combines the shape of a boomerang with the button layout of the old-fashioned Simon game.

This covers the brief of researching, designing and making a model that brings together references and ideas to produce a clear meaning for others who view it. This meaning will be come about through carefully choosing an object that can represent a person or something that they did. The subject will focus on research of a person, living or dead, who was the first to achieve something significant. For this I could create a sculpt, model, miniature or relief of the subject, or something they used, invented or discovered. The outcome should be, in some way, relevant to the person or the achievement. What did they use in order to be the first? What change did they make to the world?
