Final progress report

This week, I have finished detailing and finalizing the sculpts, oven baked the miniatures, and started painting them with acrylic to finish. Once this is done, I will gently balance the platform on top of the syringes inside the glass container to complete my piece. One of the main problems I came across this week was how to add complex detailing on such a small-scale model, this required a fine sculpting tools and even then, it was still challenging. In future, I will also invest in isopropyl alcohol, applying it on with a brush to smooth out the super Sculpey before baking it rather than using my hands. So, all that is left to do now is to finish painting the model. In order to do this effectively I will experiment with both acrylic and gouache paints as well as using some metallic paint where needed.

In this part of the unit, I have managed my time fairly well, maintaining progress every week. I believe I will be able to finish my model in good time.

During this unit I learnt some key model-making skills, these consist of not only the basic time management and organizational skills, but also some important sculpting and modelling methods and techniques when working with miniatures such as, baking base layers of super Sculpey before working over the top of them, using plenty of reference images and templates to achieve the correct body proportions, and the use of armature body cores before adding super Sculpey onto the model.
